Creatures at Home; Artist Statement
This whimsical collection of photographs explores the lives of anthropomorphized creatures in their imagined homes. Reminiscent of beloved childhood tales of 'Wind in the Willows' and the enchanting illustrations of Beatrix Potter, these charming images encourage conversation around the often overlooked habitats of our smallest neighbors.
Live animals were invited to make themselves at home within intricately styled dollhouse rooms. Peering into their small worlds, watching them engage as we do in the daily routines of life, makes a poignant case for empathy, coexistence and conservation. At a time where rapid land development and even landscaping encroach upon the habitats and food supply of these seemingly insignificant creatures, we are reminded of the impact our actions have on the delicate balance of our ecosystem where even the most despised pests have a role to play. It is a reminder of the interconnectedness of all living beings, a moment to pause and reflect on the importance of preserving biodiversity and respecting the homes of the smallest inhabitants of our planet.
